SAINT LUCIA RECEIVES TECHNICAL COOPERATION ON HUMAN RIGHTS

CASTRIES, 15th September 2020 –The Government of Saint Lucia received training on human rights from the Inter American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in Washington. 


The Department of External Affairs, through the National Coordinating Committee for Human Rights(NCCHR), facilitated human rights training conducted by the IACHR. The aim of the training is to develop the capacity of public servants, as well as the NCCHR on the mandate and mechanisms of the Inter American Human Rights System(IAHRS). The training is also in line with the current thrust of active engagement by the Commission with CARICOM States. 

The training took the form of a seminar conducted via Zoom focusing on an overview of the IAHRS, which provided insight into the System’s human rights standards and work mechanisms. The training is expected to run between September and October 2020, and is expected to cover specific thematic modules focusing areas such as women’s rightsrights of persons of African Descent and Racial DiscriminationRights of Persons with Disabilities and Child Rights.
