Gros Islet Polyclinic receives EKG Machine
Department of External Affairs

The Gros Islet Polyclinic is the recipient of an EKG/ECG Machine donated by the E-Club Caraibes Association in Martinique. The machine was handed to Ms. Sharon Joseph, Administrator, Gros Islet Polyclinic, by Mr. Guillaume Simon, Acting Deputy Permanent Sectary, Department of External Affairs, during a handing over ceremony held at the Department of External Affairs on Friday, October 16, 2020.

This EKG machine forms part of the second donation by the Association to Saint Lucia's health sector. In 2019, the Victoria Hospital was the recipient of two (2) echograph machines from the Association, specifically designated for the Pediatric Department.

Chronic Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs) continue to be one of the major causes of death and disability in Saint Lucia. Therefore, diagnosing illnesses and diseases are an important component of administering effective medical care to patients. Consequently, the donation of this EKG machine will go a long way in assisting the Ministry of Health on the successful strides it has made thus far towards mitigating the impact of morbidity and mortality associated with cardiovascular diseases.

This gesture will further strengthen the existing diplomatic relations between Saint Lucia and France, particularly with its overseas French Departments (DOMs) of Guadeloupe, French Guiana (Cayenne), and Martinique.
