CASTRIES, 18th September 2020 – On 16th September 2020 personnel from the Department of External Affairs at Capital and Saint Lucia’s Mission to the Organization of American States(OAS), based in Washington DC, participated in a virtual training workshop on the Inter-American SIMORE facilitated by the Inter American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) based in Washington.
Developed by the Government of Paraguay, SIMORE, an acronym in Spanish for Monitoring System on International Recommendations, is a database which allows for accessing and monitoring the implementation of regional and international human rights recommendations. The System was adopted by the OAS to monitor human rights recommendations of its Member States. The training was aimed at familiarising Member States with the System, providing access to a centralised platform to view their recommendations, and in turn, strengthen the capacity and commitment of State institutions in the follow-up and monitoring of the implementation of human rights recommendations.
Saint Lucia anticipates that use of the Simore System will contribute to the improvement of its national human rights mechanism.
