Saint Lucians, especially those in the  the business community are being warned and cautioned on letters originating from South Africa or Nigeria, soliciting business in Saint Lucia to conduct financial transactions of a suspicious nature.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry , International Financial Services and Consumer Affairs has reported that letters and information regarding dubious requests for assistance for huge money transfers from persons in South Africa and Nigeria are continuing to flow into the Ministry.

According to the Ministry, the requests require mutual participation by two parties in purporting to effect money transfers from South Africa or Nigeria.   In fact, it is the understanding of the Director of Commerce and other ministry officials that business persons in Saint Lucia have already been victims of these financial scams.

Persons in Saint Lucia receiving such correspondence, the Ministry is advising, that they should be ignored or submitted to the Commissioner of Police for further investigation.
